COWBOY TESTIMONIES

GRANT GLOVER

My entire life revolved around the sport of rodeo until I was 19 years old. I don't even remember opening a Bible until my sophomore year in college. At that time I was going to college for one reason, and that was to ride bulls! However, God had a different plan, and would place some of His servants in my path to change my life.  Now I can gladly say that "my life consists of rodeo, but revolves around God!"

A son of a pastor, and now very good friend of mine named Justin Smith had the courage to come into my dorm room and tell me and my roommate that he was going to pray for us. As he began to pray, I didn't even bow my head or close my eyes, but that didn't matter... God’s Word had been planted in my life. For the next couple of years his prayer stayed in my mind, although I was still struggling with salvation and my purpose as one of God’s servants.

It was around this time that I was introduced to Bill and Karen Shaw of Christian Cowboys Who Care Ministries.  A very good friend of mine and my traveling partner... Wade Anders, told me about a Bible camp that Bill and Karen hosted every year in Palestine, Texas. Karen approached me a week before the camp and asked me if I would serve as a counselor to the younger kids at their camp. Immediately fear came over me and I thought..."these people don’t really know me". I kept thinking... "how can I go talk about God and his kingdom if I'm not even sure about my place in it"

Days before the camp started, I tried to come up with every good excuse as to why I could not attend, but could find none. As I arrived at the campgrounds, I stopped in the driveway and was about to turn around. It was at that moment, I felt the strongest conviction I have ever known... to keep traveling down that driveway.

Moments before the first speaker was about to share the Word that night, I went behind some pine trees and in an absurd manner stated my terms to the Lord... I said “alright God, if I am here for a reason, I need to know now!"  Then, as I heard the words spoken by that first minister I couldn't help but think, "he's speaking right to ME and telling MY life story!" After his message I approached that speaker and told him that if for no other reason, he had been sent that night to speak to me, and his message would change my life forever. His message, along with that camp, and the very good Christian friends God has placed in my path have without a doubt given me a new meaning to life.

I often think about the five years since that day, and what it has meant to me. Bull riding and rodeo are still a very big part of my life, but now it's just a whole lot more fun! My wife Paige and I are blessed enough to own "Champion Rodeo Supply" which is a rodeo equipment manufacturing business that now supplies products to around 300 retailers nationwide.

Most importantly, I now have a purpose and destination because of the big God we serve.

Sincerely,

Grant Glover
